God’s Own Junkyard

Finding random, unique spots in London is a favourite pass time of mine. I love visiting these types of places that bring so much personality to an already vivid city.

This particular post is about Gods Own Junkyard, which is an epic wonderland of lights. It’s filled with neon and vintage signs all unassumingly tucked away within a nondescript warehouse in Walthamstow.

The story behind Gods Own Junkyard is pretty cool, the owner Chris Bracey has been creating these iconic pieces of art for 37 years and some have been used by the likes of David La Chappelle, Martin Creed, Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan and more. They’ve been featured in movies such as Batman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Eyes Wide Shut. Once the movies are wrapped up, they’re discarded so Chris has collected such pieces as well as old signs from here, there and everywhere. He then restored them to their full glory for us to enjoy!

It’s the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon wandering through neon perfection. They also have a café at the back of the building, which is great for a quick a drink or a bite to eat.

Not only are the signs displayed for your viewing pleasure but you can actually buy a piece for yourself! However, just be warned of the hefty price tags. Signs are also available for rent but again it would cost you a pretty penny!

Finally, it’s also the perfect place to get a cool instagram pic. Don’t pretend it didn’t cross your mind!
