Hong Kong

Where do I start to explain the beautiful chaos that is Hong Kong? It’s full to the brim with culture, architecture, food, shopping, people and skylines that will make you star struck.

So, I’m sure you’ve heard about some of the scary events that have been taking place in Hong Kong as of recent but when I visited in 2017 it was safe and we had a great trip. However, if you are thinking about making a trip there be sure to do your research and be vigilant whilst there.

This trip was quite a long one compared to my other holidays as we were there for 8 nights and 9 days. In preparation for the trip, I made a detailed guide of things to do and see, which I would recommend doing.

The public transport there is fantastic and so easy to use. Their subway system is honestly one of the best I’ve experienced with excellent mobile phone service, air conditioning, easy navigation and just simply being clean and open.

There were tonnes of amazing places and attractions we visited, take a look below:

  • Victoria Harbour – famous skyline with the symphony of lights show every evening
  • Tsuen Wan Western Monastery – a huge beautiful monastery filled with history and culture
  • Hong Kong observation wheel – a beautiful way to take in the views
  • 1881 Heritage – stunning shopping area
  • Ladies Market – get amazing deals and see the hustle and bustle of the famous market
  • Goldfish Market – a fascinating place where fish are displayed in clear plastic bags
  • Wong Tai Sin Temple – another beautiful temple
  • Ngong Ping Buddha Mountain Monastery – see the giant buddha statue from below or climb the stairs to get an up-close look as well as taking in the views of the monastery
  • Victoria Peak – an amazing location to really take in the breath-taking views of Hong Kong
  • Repulse Bay – a popular beach
  • Ocean Park – a fun theme park, be sure to ride the cable cars!
  • Instagram Pier – for all of you looking for a great photo opportunity, this is it!
  • Disney Land – yup you read right, Hong Kong has its own Disney Land
  • Hop on a bus tour – a great way to travel to various interesting points
  • Day trip to Macau – they call it the Vegas of Asia and it’s not a lie, worth going to take in the extravagant hotels and casinos and maybe even watch a show. We watched the house of dancing water and it was beyond incredible

I just noticed how much we did in the time that we were there and that’s not to mention all the additional little things we did in between. It makes sense why we were totally exhausted when we got back!

I’m going to finish by saying that Hong Kong is rich with culture and history. Every corner is a fantastic photo opportunity worth seeing! So, when you’re there just lose yourself to it and explore; go for an early morning hike, visit the night markets and make sure to try the abundant choices of street food, you won’t be disappointed.
