Bath

Happy New Year Everyone! It’s been a WHILE to say the least and I can’t say I have a good reason for my absence besides LIFE! Anyway, I am back and will be uploading consistently as I have lots to share with you guys. I have been to a bunch of places since we last spoke and I cannot wait to post the details! So grab a snack and lets get into it!

If you’ve been following the blog for a while you’ll know that every year for my birthday I like to do a little staycation. For 2023 it was a choice between Bath or The Cotswolds and after putting it to a vote we landed on Bath. We stayed for 2 nights and had the absolute best time exploring the city!

We created a loose itinerary before our trip so we could have some plans in place and didn’t waste time trying to figure out what to do when we arrived. I have listed the things we did and enjoyed below if you need some inspo for your trip. Everything we did was within walking distance to where we were staying which was Hiding Space Trim Street Apartments. I would highly recommend these apartments if you want somewhere that is accessible, nice and on a reasonable price point.

Thermae Rooftop Spa:

I was in two minds as to whether I should add this location to the list, since we didn’t have the best time here, however, others seemed to have enjoyed it so I will include it and let you make your own impressions. I would also like to add that I have visited many spas over the years as it’s one of my favourite ways to treat myself, so, I have certain expectations when it comes to the facilities and quality of service. This spa, for me didn’t meet those expectations and it was super busy therefore the facilities were very crowded and it was not at all a relaxing experience. With that being said the pools were nice and the rooftop offers a lovely view of the city.

Roman Baths:

This was the highlight of the trip since it actually feels as if you’ve been transported back in time. The Roman Baths collection contains thousands of archaeological finds from pre-Roman and Roman Britain. We booked our tickets online in advance to avoid long queues especially as we were visiting during the summer holidays. I would highly recommend selecting an earlier time-slot like we did, this helped avoid large crowds of people.

Pultney Bridge/ River Avon:

This bridge is located over the River Avon and one of the most photographed examples of Georgian architecture in the city. It is also one of only four bridges in the world to have shops across its full span on both sides. This is an unmissable photo op so be sure to add it to your list!

Bath Abbey:

The abbey is a stunning historical site and a grade 1 listed building. The architecture is simply inspiring. We visited late afternoon and it was a lovely experience, be sure to check their website because they regularly have a variety of events going on. We booked our tickets on the day and even though we had to wait in line for approximately 15-20mins before making our way inside it wasn’t too bad. You can also pre-book in advance if you’d rather avoid the queue.

Topping & Co Bookshop:

This is for all you book lovers! Topping & Company Booksellers Bath are the largest independent bookshop in England in living memory. The store is stunning to behold outside and inside!

Bridgerton Filming Locations:

I am a huge fan of the show Bridgerton and a lot of the show was filmed in Bath therefore we simply had to visit some of those spots while we were there. The main ones we went to were: The Abbey Deli (The Modiste), Beauford Square/ Abbey Green (Eloise Promenading), The Royal Crescent (Featherington House), Holburne Museum (Lady Danburys House) and The Circus. It was so cool to see where the show was filmed in real life and I would highly recommend adding them to your list!

The Holburne Museum:

As mentioned above this is one of the filming locations for Bridgerton however it is also the city’s first public art gallery. The Grade I listed building is home to fine and decorative arts built around the collection of Sir William Holburne. Sadly we ran out of time and could not go inside however we did manage to drop by and see the building.

I feel like we did a lot in the space of 2 days whilst also having a mini birthday celebration at our apartment. We also had lovely weather for the duration of our stay and it truly felt as if we were on holiday. I would have to say Bath is one of my favourite places in the UK and I cannot recommend it enough so make sure you plan a trip there and if you do let me know what you thought!
