Bellagio – Lake Como

Last year we took a sister trip to Sorrento/ Positano and had the most amazing time. When we got back we decided to make it an annual sister tradition where we would visit a different part of Italy together every year. As summer was fast approaching we had to pick a location and decided on Bellagio Lake Como simply because it’s stunning and considered one of the most spectacular lakes in Italy. Bellagio is known as the pearl of Lake Como and in my opinion the most beautiful town out of the 24 towns and villages that make up Lake Como. It is widely known for its picturesque streets with tiny boutiques, shops and restaurants and having visited I can confirm this is not a lie!

To get to Bellagio you have to fly into Milan then take a train as well as a ferry however we decided to splurge on comfort and had a private car service pick us up from the airport to our Airbnb. We did this last year when we flew to Naples and had the car take us to our hotel in Sorrento and it was the best decision we made. Although the public transport is reliable, cheap and fairly quick be aware it can get super crowded specially during peak season. Also keep in mind if you have to walk to your hotel from the pier with your luggage, the streets in Bellagio are very very steep.

Places to Stay:

Hotels can be quite expensive in Bellagio which was one of the reasons why we opted for a lovely spacious apartment. We found our apartment on Booking.com and it was great, equipped with a full kitchen, living/dining space and an updated bathroom complete with a balcony that boasted fantastic views of the lake!

Things To Do:

Bellagio is a pretty chill place to holiday in, so be prepared to do mostly walking, sight seeing, and simply enjoying the vibes. With that being said I have listed things we did and saw during our 5 day stay (as well as a few extras) below:

  • Villa Melzi Gardens
  • Salita Sarbelloni
  • Private Boat Tour
  • Villa Del Balbianello
  • Basilica of San Giacomo
  • Views from Punta Spartivento
  • Ferry to Varenna, Menaggio, Lenno and other neighbouring towns
  • Explore the beautiful streets lined with restaurants and shops

Food:

The food in Bellagio was delicious! There are endless pasta and pizza dishes and don’t even get me started on the gelato shops! With regards to halal restaurants I’m sure we could have found some if we looked hard enough but honestly we were content with the seafood and vegetarian options. We also found a large supermarket near us that had a huge variety of food including familiar items from home! We did a little grocery shop to stock the fridge and cupboards in our apartment so we didn’t have to have breakfast and lunch out everyday.

How Much We Spent:

Our flights were relatively inexpensive because we booked quite early on in the year, this was also the case for our apartment. Flights and accommodation for 4 nights worked out to be under £200 per person. Whilst Italy can be expensive especially in the more upscale touristy areas we found that even without curbing our spending we were below our budget! This was including our activities and our amazing private vintage boat tour of the lake. If there is a good deal to be found I will find it!

Anyway, overall this trip was one for the books, we made some amazing memories and had such a dreamy experience. I have included some images in this post but there is a tonne more content including videos over on our Instagram page! Where do you think we should go next year?
