We decided to visit Mnky Hse to celebrate my sisters 17th birthday and sadly it didn’t meet our expectations and fell a little flat for us. Having said that, an experience is totally subjective and will differ person to person, so here’s mine and do with that what you will!
Mnky Hse is quite the hot spot at the moment, located in posh Mayfair. The location spans across two floors and the atmosphere is made up of dim lighting, low seating and vibrant music. They have a lounge upstairs with a dedicated bar open til very late and downstairs is where the main attraction can be found. A Latin-American restaurant where chef Pablo Peñalosa Nájera, has combined traditional elements of Latin American cooking with seasonal British ingredients. As dinner service wanes into the night the restaurant transforms into a dancing space which is backlit with the in house DJ.
As mentioned we booked this for a birthday dinner, so when we arrived we were a little surprised at how casual the restaurant seemed. Some guests were in leisurewear which isn’t an issue however shocking since Mnky Hse is one of the more expensive restaurants in London at the moment even exceeding the price tags of Michelin star restaurants. In addition to that some of the furniture such as seating had rips in it! We weren’t feeling the luxury dining vibes that’s for sure.
The menu itself was diverse and we managed to navigate it without any assistance. We ordered an array of dishes to share and straight off the bat I will say the food was mid. I honestly was expecting a lot more in terms of flavour and presentation. I have listed what we ordered below:

- Fried Baja Seabass Soft Tacos
- Chicken Chipotle Soft Tacos
- Mnky Dragon Sushi Roll
- Soft Shell Crab Maki
- Cheesecake (Birthday Dessert Plate)
- Dragon Passion (Mocktail)
Finally, the service we had that night was quite poor, maybe it was a bad night but our server was rude and we felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant. Whilst we were eating he would come over and start cleaning the table! He would hover over our shoulders very closely to do so even though we were in the middle of eating! He also took the dessert plate away before it was finished and without asking which was honestly shocking considering my sister was holding a spoon with a bite on there!
Anyway to conclude the experience was a disappointment for us and we will not be heading back. I wont say it was the worst however based on the price point it was shocking! I would advise that you manage your expectations if you do decide to visit.
