I had initially planned to put our top 3 restaurant picks of the trip into one post however I’m always interested the little details of a place including the food people order which is why I decided to make them separate posts, enjoy!
Whilst making our itinerary we chose to make reservations for 3 out of the 6 nights we were in New York. This helped us have some plans in place but also left room to be spontaneous and eat randomly when we wanted. Anyway, Tao was one of the three and was also the first place we dined at in the city. Tao has a couple of locations in New York and after a little research I had found that the Downtown spot was the nicest hence why we came here and we were not disappointed!
We had dinner reservations and arrived hungry after a full day of exploring. We were greeted and taken into the dining area which was truly spectacular. The location itself is sort of underground where you enter at street level then go down a flight of stairs and a series of darkened hallways to get to the electric atmosphere of the restaurant. Our waiter was super friendly and helped us order recommending dishes and drinks. We ordered so much food definitely too much for two people but we wanted to try a little of almost everything haha. The portions were very generous and were made specifically to be shared which worked great for us. Anyway, check out below what we ordered if you are planning to go and need some help:
- Rock Shrimp Lettuce Cups
- Imperial Vegetable Spring Rolls
- Lobster & Shrimp Spring Rolls
- Hot & Sour Soup with Shrimp Toast
- Shrimp Tempura
- Miso Roasted Black Cod
- Steamed Bok Choy
- Crispy Lobster Sushi Roll
- Mojito (non-alcoholic)
If you’re thinking that is a lot for two people to finish, let me confirm you are correct! We ate as much as we could but decided pack up the rest to take back to the hotel which we devoured the next day! We were lucky our hotel was more than happy to store our food safely as well as bring it up to our room after reheating when we requested.
Anyway, we had an amazing time here not only was the food great but the service and atmosphere enhanced our experience tremendously, I would highly recommend checking it out! Let us know if you visit and what your favourite dish was.
