NYC – Top 3 Skyline Views

It’s been a busy couple of months to say the least and to be honest I have been procrastinating a little when it comes to the blog but I’m finally ready to get some NYC content on here!

Near the end of March my sister and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to New York. We booked the tickets super last minute and had only 2 weeks to pack and plan. The last time I visited New York was in 2016 so it was amazing to have the chance to go back, it was also my sisters first time which was exciting. We had the most amazing week and I’m excited to share some of the details!

We created a loose itinerary on what we wanted to see and do just so we had some structure to the week. A big part of those plans were finding spots where we would get the best views of the city. We visited 3 in particular which I have listed below that are definitely worth checking out if you are in New York.

Top of The Rock

Top of The Rock can be found at The Rockefeller Centre and it is not to be missed! Enjoy 360-degree views from both indoor and outdoor. The sights of the city from here are unparalleled and in my opinion one of the best in New York! It’s a bold statement to make I know, however you will just have to trust me on this. If you can only visit one of the three I have listed in this post I would highly recommend this one! From the 50th street entrance to the mezzanine exhibit, elevator ride and interactive breezeway there is a lot to discover on your way up to the top. Once you arrive you will be able to enjoy unobstructed views from the 68th and 69th floors, you can then make your way up to the 70th floor that has no glass or metal enclosures giving you the perfect photo op. Tickets start at around $34-40 and go up based on the package you select, I would recommend booking online in advance that way you can avoid the queues and go straight in at your allocated time slot.

Summit One Vanderbilt

The Summit was so much fun and a lot more than just amazing views of the city! The experience takes advantage of One Vanderbilt’s Midtown location with its height and views, while truly immersing visitors in a spectacular way. One Vanderbilt is the tallest commercial skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan and among the top 30 tallest buildings in the world. Your visit will be broken into 4 parts; Air, Levitation, Ascent and Après. Air will leave you breathless with floor to ceiling windows showcasing New York at its finest. You will be surrounded with mirrors that create an almost blinding affect as if you are well and truly floating on air through the city. A little tip: be sure to wear trousers because the floor is all mirror so dresses and skirts may leave little to the imagination for other visitors! As you you make your way through each section, the experience evolves, becomes interactive, playful as you connect physically to the space. You will encounter a number of different art instillations ranging from silver floating helium orbs to digital displays of the sky. Tickets start at around $39 but goes up depending on the package and the time of day. We picked a late afternoon time slot but ended up staying through sunset and left well after the skies darkened. I would highly recommend going during sunset and staying until dark everything changes and it is a totally difference experience to daytime. Anyway, I would highly recommend The Summit if you are looking for more than a photo op and an actual activity to enjoy where you can spend a good portion of the day.

Edge – Observation Deck

Edge is a little different to the above as the highest outdoor sky deck in the western Hemisphere with panoramic views of the city. You begin by entering into an immersive multimedia experience before heading up over 1,100 feet into the air. This locations unique vantage point on the western side of Manhattan lets you take in the entire skyline from one place, from the tip of Central Park to the Statue of Liberty and beyond! The outdoor deck is suspended more than 1,100 feet up with 7,500 sqft of outdoor space spanning 80 feet straight into the air. Feel the thrill of leaning out over the edge with the busy city below surrounded by frameless glass panels boldly angled outward and if you’re feeling brave stand on top of the glass floor and look 100 stories straight down to the city streets. You can also purchase tickets to climb the highest open-air building ascent and scale the skyscraper more than 1200 feet above the ground! Out the three mentioned this one was my least favourite however it was still pretty cool, I just happened to prefer the other two.

I added a few pics of each viewing spot above but there are a tonne more on our Instagram page linked below if you’d like to check it out and get a more in depth look! Writing this post has made me super nostalgic, this city will forever have a piece of my heart! Anyway, If you do get to visit one or more of the above let us know below what your thoughts were!
