Festive Dinner 2021

What a year it’s been, am I right? I feel like Christmas has come around super fast but it was definitely necessary! You’re probably aware from my previous Christmas posts my family and I don’t actually celebrate the holiday however I do love any opportunity to put out a pretty dinner spread, so here is this years festive dinner.

We started the day pretty late considering I had to cook a large meal for 6 but we managed. I made everyone a quick breakfast just to keep us all going considering dinner wasn’t served until 5pm. I had seen a picture of the above on Pinterest where toast had festive shapes cut out for egg to go in and I thought it was too cute to pass up. The process itself was pretty simple where you just:

  • Cut out shapes from bread
  • Melt butter in a non-stick pan
  • Lightly toast bread in butter on one side then add in the egg mix
  • Flip and cook the other side and serve

The shapes initially weren’t too visible so we cut them out with the cutter which made it stand out!

This year we decided not to eat at the dining room table but set up a circular table in the formal living room which we don’t use that often. The table setting we decided on was a lot more chic than what we have done in previous years. The theme was black, gold, white and nude. The main feature were the candles where we used a variety of colours, shapes and sizes to add dimension but also be the centrepiece of the table. The candle sticks were from amazon and the candles were from a range of stores – Ikea, H&M and Dunlem.

We printed off mini menus that followed the colour scheme for each person and used gold charger plates to make each place setting pop. My sister found the cutest little ornaments online to use as a place cards, these were from Ginger Ray off of Amazon and a huge hit everyone loved the little festive touch. We also found the most perfect napkin rings that were gold and shaped like a reindeer! We finished it off with gold cutlery and were blown away by the end result.

I was a lot more organised with the cooking this year which is probably why it didn’t feel as overbearing as it has done in previous years. I had a system in place with prep and use of the oven which made things so much more easier. Everything turned out delicious and believe it or not the smashed Brussel Sprouts were the star of the show! I’m as surprised as you are, I had followed a recipe I came across on TikTok and they turned out amazing.

I didn’t have the time nor the energy to make dessert from scratch or to assemble a dessert board so we ended up buying a festive Colin the Caterpillar cake from M&S which was yum! We finished the day in the most perfect way by continuing our annual Harry Potter marathon whilst binging on an assortment of snack, because why not?!

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not I hope you had a lovely break and are looking forward to the new year. Let me know below how you spent your Christmas break and what your favourite thing about this time of year is.
