As a surprise on my birthday my sisters set up a mini brunch buffet with all of my favourites and it turned out so cute! We spent the day grazing from it until our evening dinner reservations.
Although my sisters set this up themselves I’d like to think I had some input as I have done many similar situations in the past whilst bullying them into helping. The first tip is to choose where the food will go, my sisters decided to use the kitchen island in our Airbnb and it was just the right amount of space. The next step is to make a list of food you will be serving but keep in mind your space so you can plan the layout.
If you need some ideas I have listed what we had below:
- Avocado Toast & Egg & Bang Bang Sauce
- Chocolate & Biscoff Waffles with Fruit
- Maple Pancakes with Sprinkles & Icing
- Hummus Platter
- Chocolate Strawberries & Raspberries
- Krispy Kreme Doughnut Tower
- Brownie Slab (Brownie God)
- Strawberry Coolers
When displaying the food be sure to pick a mixture of server-ware including items that give height. I didn’t want a birthday cake this year and made sure my sisters knew otherwise they would have spent a bunch ordering a cake. Instead they made a tower of maple pancakes covered in icing and sprinkles with a candle popped on the top! It actually turned out pretty good and looked really cute amongst everything else.
The drinks were super yummy and pretty easy to make, it consisted of mashed up strawberries and sugar topped up with fizzy pink Shloer. We would have added mint leaves, ice and lime if we had it so feel free to do so if you re-create.
We got a lot of replies on our snaps about the waffles which my sister found the idea for on Pinterest! I have a separate post coming up on how to make those!
We ordered a decorative brownie slab from Brownie God and it was delicious albeit the design wasn’t what we expected but it did taste good. They are quite pricey being £30 but they do make a cute gift if you know a chocolate lover and have a little extra budget.
Who doesn’t love a chocolate strawberry, am I right? These ones were simply just covered with the Nutella that was left over from the waffles.
I love the look of piled doughnuts on a cake stand, we had 3 different flavours from Krispy Kreme, the original, mint choc-chip and the strawberries & cream. The strawberries and cream is my all time favourite as well as the original glazed but it was our first time trying the mint choc-chip and it was not nice at all even for a mint lover, so I would avoid it at all costs!
Overall it was a small and simple arrangement but it looked stunning! Just goes to show you can put together a real show stopper with only a few items. The secret lies in the details and placement of items. Be sure to tag us on instagram and let us know if you re-create any of the items listed!
