Happy Ramadan Everyone!
For anyone who may not know, during the month of Ramadan we fast for 30 days where we don’t eat or drink between the hours of sunrise and sunset. To break our fasts we traditionally eat a date and one of my favourite things to do is cover the dates in chocolate and decorate them. These are so delicious and simple to make, they’re also the perfect Iftaar gift.
Medjool dates are the best to use for this since they are large in size and I find they’re taste best complements chocolate. The first step is to prep the dates by washing and de-seeding them, once you have done that you can fill it with the nut of your choice; I prefer to use almonds. After they have been filled comes the fun part; decorating! I used both milk and white chocolate to cover some of the dates completely and some of them partially. I also added a little food colouring to the white chocolate to have some pink ones. I then sprinkled them from a selection of pistachios, biscuit crumbs, rainbow sprinkles, nutella and biscoff drizzle. Last year I added cornflakes to the chocolate mixture to give the dates a crunchy chocolaty coating, which was also super yummy. You can pretty much use whatever so feel free to go wild!
I know there are a bunch of Instagram shops that sell these but they can be pretty expensive so why spend when you can easily make your own! I made the tray below for my family and myself to enjoy later on and I cant wait to have one!
Let me know if you do make these and what toppings you used. Happy fasting!
