The annual Harry Potter marathon in my household is always something we look forward to, this year I wanted to make it a little extra special. We had the marathon over Halloween weekend and put together a themed spread for us to enjoy while we binged the films. It turned out super cute and everyone loved it, so if you want to re-create and host your own HP themed viewing party then check out the details below!
The main feature was the mini dessert table, which we set up under the TV with the decorations surrounding it. That way we could see it all whilst enjoying the movies! We had two large balloons framing the TV, one was a shield of the 4 Hogwarts’s Houses and the other was of Hedwig the owl. Is it just me or do balloons make everything better?! Anyway, both balloons were purchased from eBay and we got them blown up at our local party store.
A little DIY was involved in creating some of the decorations. We printed off posters we found online that were a mixture of wanted signs and daily prophet articles, these were haphazardly stuck all over the door. We also printed a ‘No Muggles Allowed’ sign and put in a frame, which was displayed on an easel beside the dessert table.
Thinking up Harry Potter-themed food and drinks was the most fun, this is where we got creative. Pinterest is the ultimate spot to find all sorts of ideas, I wanted to make them all but one: we didn’t have enough space to display it and two: there were only a few of us, so it would have been too much food (if that’s even be a thing).
· Ferrero Rocher Golden Snitches – these look so great and are easy to make. All you need is cut-out paper wings which you then attach using the small name sticker on the chocolate. I found a template for the wings online which made things a lot easier, click here to check it out.
· Potion Drinks – we printed off labels with house names and potion names that we cut and stuck on cans and bottles. Surprisingly they turned out better than I had hoped!
· Harry Potter Cake – real fans will recognise this cake from the movie! Luckily the cake itself is suppose to be imperfect so it wasn’t too difficult to recreate. We bought a Victoria sponge cake which we then decorated in pink icing and wrote ‘Harry Potter’ in green icing.
· Hufflepuff Popcorn – this was simply sweet popcorn in a Halloween style bucket.
· Cauldron Cupcakes – these were cupcakes with spider webs, bats and boo signs on them.
· Sweet Stand – we filled 3 jars with different sweets and added labels to make it look like the sweets from the movie e.g. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavoured Beans.
· Chocolate Coins – these were scattered around the table.
· Butter Beer – we used our souvenir mugs from HP Studios to hold ginger beer which looked a little like butterbeer.
· Chocolate Wands – we received these as gifts and they added another element to the table décor.
Little details such as mini pumpkins, lanterns, candles, light-up sign, food labels, branded napkins and straws helped bring it all together. The final product created quite the picture!
Comfy clothes are a must when you’re engaged in a full blown marathon! We lounged around in joggers, matching t-shirts that had ‘Chosen One’ written on them as well as Hogwarts House socks. It honestly was the best and I would totally recommend doing this, especially now that we’re back in lockdown. If you want to see more from the day I have a highlight saved on my Instagram which is linked below! I also have a TikTok on it, click here to check it out!
Hope you enjoyed reading about this post as much as I did writing it! Drop a comment below what your favourite Harry Potter film is!
