The Ivy in general is an amazing place to dine, the atmosphere is great and the food even better! They have quite a few locations but this one was my first and definitely one of the nicest in my opinion. The Chelsea branch is really pretty and quite spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a section, in particular, that is in between both outdoor and indoor areas, which has a fireplace and it’s the best place to be seated.
I would describe the décor as botanical interspersed with pops of colour through their eclectic furniture and artwork. Another great feature about the restaurant is that depending on the time of year they will have seasonal themed displays at the front of the building. Some of them are elaborate floral displays that are so stunning everyone walking by will take pictures. A lot of places incorporate flowers in their décor however none do it like The Ivy. The bathrooms are really nice at both locations, especially at the St Albans one! Am I the only person that judges a restaurant heavily based on the condition of their bathrooms?
The food itself is colourful, fresh and served beautifully that feed the eyes before you take a bite! As a person who can only eat halal meat, my options do get limited however they offer a range of seafood, vegetarian and vegan dishes that I like. My favourite dish is the fish and chips, they honestly make the best in my opinion. One serving is enough for two people as you get two pieces of fish, a good-sized portion of chunky chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. They also have an excellent breakfast menu which you can enjoy if you prefer that over lunch or dinner. My top choices from that menu are the buttermilk pancakes, poached eggs with avocado and the eggs benedict without the ham (of course).
Below is a list of dishes and drinks I have tried:
- Zucchini Fritti
- Fish and Chips
- Black Cod
- Tempura Prawns
- Chocolate Bomb
- Assortment of Ice Cream & Sorbet
- Avocado Benedict
- Breakfast Pastries
- Poached Eggs with Avocado & Quinoa
- Buttermilk Pancakes
- Two Hen’s Eggs with Toast
- Eggs Benedict (without ham)
- Butter Croissant with Preserves
- Toast and Preserves
- The Ivy home-made Ginger Beer
- Mixed Berry Smoothie
- Elderflower Garden
- Strawberry & Vanilla Soda
It is a little on the pricier side however not unreasonably so. I love that the restaurant is versatile as it’s ideal for a special occasion as well as a casual lunch or dinner. Having dined here multiple times I believe the price matches the service, quality and quantity of food you receive.
Anyway, to conclude I love the place and would totally recommend it to everyone! Let me know in if you do get a chance to eat there and what you ordered!
