Bedroom Decor Hacks

This is a little different to what I’ve been writing about so far, but I’m a huge sucker for décor and I wanted to represent that on my website. I wouldn’t claim to be an interior expert however throughout the redecoration of my family home I’ve picked up some useful tips and tricks. I wanted to share these with you, to help out other novices like myself!

A year or so ago, we redecorated the upper level of our home; it all came about when we had a small loft extension done. With all the mess the extension created, it just made sense to update all the bedrooms. In the process, my room was reduced in size by a quarter of the original dimensions. This was because a stairway to the loft needed to be created. It ruined some of the plans I had however I still wanted a nicely decorated room so I started looking at ways to incorporate some of my original ideas into a smaller space

CHOOSE SUBTLE COLOURS – The first thing I did was; pick a colour for the walls. I went against wallpaper, as I didn’t want the fuss but also felt that the paper I wanted would make the room appear smaller than it was. I decided on a soft grey matte paint, which would go with the colours and designs I had planned to use in other areas of the room. I would recommend going for a subtle, neutral colour for a bedroom since you want to set a restful and soothing mood. If you are someone who loves bold and bright colours you could go for a toned-down version of the colour for example instead of bright pink you can use a soft mauve.

PICK CORRECT FURNITURE – I would highly impress to make sure you select the correct sized furniture for the room. I wanted a full set but with the space limitations, I had to make some necessary cuts. Start with a measured floor plan when shopping so you can see how things would fit. Remember the furniture should fit the space, not the other way round.

HAVE LOTS OF STORAGE – As someone who doesn’t have an excessive amount of things, even I find myself always needing more storage. Look for ways to incorporate storage in different areas of the room so you have space to put things away. An example would be trundle beds, which open to reveal a large space that can store items that are not needed on a daily basis.

SPOIL YOURSELF WITH LUXURIOUS BEDDING – When I was looking at inspiration for my room I came across a bed linen set that I instantly fell in love with. I also decided to get the matching curtains and it was the best decision. Matching linens were an effortless way to make the room look super chic. When picking linens, make sure it’s a style that you love and can be versatile, that way you can make easy changes should you want to.

HAVE MULTIPLE LIGHTING OPTIONS – This can change the mood of the room depending on the vibe you are going for. I have a simple chandelier that has a dimmer switch so I can pick the brightness, which is great. I also have a small lamp that lights the room up softly when I want to relax.

Finally the main motto I kept throughout the process was ‘keep it minimal’. I think the more fuss you add can make the space hectic and jarring which is the opposite of what you want. I hope you were able to take away something useful from this post and apply it to your decorating journey!
