Monaco was another day trip destination, we flew out early morning and got there in no time at all. From the airport, we took a scenic bus ride straight into Monte Carlo (a popular neighbourhood in Monaco), which is where the fun is at! The good thing about Monte Carlo is that it’s quite a small neighbourhood so you can literally walk from one end to another.
Anyone who watches the Grand Prix or is into racing will know how important the race track (Circuit de Monaco) is in formula 1. This track is laid out on the city streets in Monte Carlo and very interesting to see in person. You will also see a constant flow of supercars on the road driven by the high flyers who are holidaying or live there. If you are a fan of cars be sure to pop into the Monaco Top Cars Collection museum, the ticket is cheap and it’s nice to wander around looking at the evolution of these amazing vehicles.
Another spot to visit luxury modes of transport is the Yacht Club De Monaco. The yacht club is lined with luxury boats that are probably larger than some people’s homes! With the backdrop of hills and mountains, it really is spectacular, and you guessed it a great photo opportunity.
You cannot visit Monte Carlo without going to see the famous casino! There is no grander or famous casino than this. It’s an elaborate gambling house that has been in various James Bond movies and the most iconic building there. It’s also worth having a walk through the Pavillions des Merveilles, which are 5 interesting looking, pebble-shaped buildings. These buildings house designer stores and are just a cool architectural spot to visit and being opposite the casino it’s super easy to get to.
The Prince’s Palace of Monaco is a great spot not only to see the palace where the Prince of Monaco resides but the views from up there are second to none. Just be aware it’s a bit of a walk up a steep hill unless you take a taxi.
We did pop to the beach for a quick stroll and the colour of the water is insane, with shades of deep and light blue! In between our activities we took a short detour into Metropole shopping mall and picked up a few items, namely from Sephora. Is it only me, but do any of you girls actively look for a Sephora when abroad?
Anyway, that was all we could fit into the day, but I think it was more than enough to get a taste of the city-state. It was well worth the trip and I would definitely go back!
